Its good but not that good July 29, 2010 Still learning at my time of life (Essex, UK) I bought the Macbook back in March but regret my initial enthusiasm has long since waned. Yes it starts and shutsdown quickly, Battery life is better than my last Windows XP laptop but don't know where the idea of 7 hours life comes from as I have yet to get more than 3 - 3.5 hours. Safari crashes on a regular basis just like IE. Personal settings called "preferences" keep falling out of bed and no amount of trashing .plist files makes any difference. Iphoto is supposed to delete pictures from your camera after importing if so desired but fails to do so. No firewire so what is the point of the application Imovie. Not really interested in the other toys on offer. To sum up simply not worth the extra expense.
will never buy apple products again July 4, 2010 nds (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The apple mac is an ok pc, its no better than a ordinary laptop. Just more expensive.
I have both a mac and an ordinary laptop and i am now using my ordinary laptop due to the issues i have had with my mac and the terrible customer service experienced when I submitted and official complaint. I received a generic reply, which did not address my compalaint in any way.
I have owned an ipod and a mac and both have failed within 3 yrs of owning them form brand new. I also know others who have had a similar issue.
My hardrive failed and although i was lucky enough to have a 3 yr warranty (which is only given to students) I had to pay to retrieve my data. If I had an ordinary warranty of 2 years my mac would not have been covered and I would have had to fork our £200 for a new harddrive and £!88 to retrieve my data.
I am now convinced mac's and ipods and iphones are made to last no longer than 3 years.
After complaining I received a bog standard letter just saying thank you for my complaint and the MD looks at complaint information once a month. That was it. Very generic and have not heard anything since.
If you want a pc to last longer then 3 years, then I wouldn't bother with an apple product. And if you want to avoid any added costs dont buy a mac. You have to pay to buy I iworks and other products that allow you to view or print or even save some documents you download from the internet. With apple you pay for everything.
Stick to ordinary PC's and save a fortune.
Macs are the bee's knees! June 25, 2010 Mr. Stephen Digance (Crieff, Scotland) I've always been a windows user and finally took the plunge to convert to a mac after getting fed-up of MS Windows Vista's bugs, crashes and slow performance troubles.
After comparing the mac specs, I decided that the entry level mac is fine for home computing. Ordered a returned mac from Amazon warehouse which provided a 20% saving on a new mac. Be careful to read the description of the returned item prior to ordering. The mac I ordered just had the box opened and returned so no problems there. Upon receipt, the mac was connected to the home wi-fi hub within 5 minutes of turning on. Fab!!! You won't get that with the bumf with a window's system. Mac's operating system is so easy to navigate and the battery power is awesome, getting 6-8 hours from full charge depending on the power settings.
iPhoto is just brill. You drop the photos to the iPhoto program and instantly become an archive of various events or albums. There's a smart tutorial which explains the basics and even has face recognition.
Only problem I encountered was transferring my iTunes from windows to mac via a corrupt windows back-up disc. But hey-ho, that's windows for you! I just had to re-load my iTunes from scratch again. Despite this, would very much recommend a mac. Simples!!
Love my Mac but second faulty product! May 28, 2010 Ms. Polina Kovalevska 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first Mac and I absolutely love it, even though I still cannot find proper software to do my translations on it (even Apple geniuses were not able to advise!).
Love this machine, there's something very tactile about it :-)
BUT had to exchange the 1st MacBook - it had a screen fault where lines of pixels did not light properly. The Mac Genii stated it was a manufacturing fault and would replace the screen. Luckily the Amazon returns policy is much more user friendly!
However my replacement Mac...guess what...also has lines, well, ONE line... If it stays the same and does not change size/shape, I intend to keep this one.
The return procedure was simple enough but it's still a hassle - uninstalling, re-setting... I want to give 5 stars, of course, but then both times I got products with faulty screens.
Simply the Best May 26, 2010 Dickyboy (uk) You will not find a better lap top any where, absolutely worth every penny.
Light weight, 7 hour battery life, very very easy to start up and works like a dream.
Just love it, dont bother looking at anything else, these laptops are light years ahead of the opposition.
